We enjoy working with LEARN students not only because of their eagerness to become better developers but also because we value their highly diverse backgrounds and experiences.
The LEARN academy interns were able to add genuinely valuable fixes and new features to the website within the duration of the internship. They exceeded our expectations, which is to both their and your credit.
The graduates from LEARN are truly fantastic. I’ve worked with many of them in a professional capacity. They know how to code. And they’re great people.
We worked with some interns who graduated from LEARN and were absolutely floored by how incredible they were. Even though LEARN is ostensibly a Ruby on Rails and JavaScript bootcamp, the women who interned with us managed to pick up an entirely new language *and* a framework in the span of just a couple weeks. And then they went on to be really productive in both!
I am a software engineer and the founder multiple software companies in San Diego. After consistently taking LEARN interns, I can honestly say LEARN is one of the BEST places to learn programming in San Diego. They set you up with the right software tools and practices that took me YEARS to learn on my own. I seriously know computer science graduate students that don’t know the stuff they are teaching. ANNNND… University takes 4 years + ~$50-200k. Bootcamp takes 4-6months + ~$10k. Both set you up to take a junior dev job where you can make >= $65k a year. Senior developers (~5 years+ experience) make around $120-200k. It’s not easy, but it’s a pretty DARN good investment!
Our small business, ThoughtSTEM, is a partner of LEARN. As partners, we provide 1-month internship experiences for LEARN students after they learn Ruby/Javascript for 3 months. It’s been a fantastic partnership – LEARN students have been excellently proficient after only 3 months of coding education and they always contribute positively to the projects they work on with us. We’ve had two groups of LEARN interns so far who worked on: (1) designing back-end software that we use manage our after-school coding programs for kids all around San Diego; (2) developing features of a virtual reality video game that will be used to teach people how to code in the future. In addition to internships, LEARN also hosts a variety of awesome community events which we have attended. They recently moved to a beautiful space downtown. And, in general, they are really fantastic people who love what they do!
