Onboarding Process Breakdown
Welcome to LEARN academy! We are thrilled to be a part of this incredible journey you are about to launch. However, before we begin, there are some items we will need you to complete to make the start of this journey as smooth as possible.
Below is a breakdown of how our Onboarding Process works, highlighting the items you will need to complete to start the upcoming cohort. You can complete some of these items right away, and for some of them, we will be sending you follow-up information soon.
Please take your time to read through each section, and if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Onboarding Checklist
1. Personal Information
Please use the link below to begin the onboarding process by providing us with some personal information about yourself. This information is for our records only.
2. Slack Sign-Up
Slack is one of the essential tools we use inside our classrooms for collaboration. Your classroom Slack Channel will be where you will see your daily schedule and communicate with your instructors and classmates. One of the other vital aspects of our Slack channels is that it’s the communication platform for our entire LEARN community. This includes all the other outstanding alums who have come before you and our fantastic community partners.
You can go ahead and join the LEARN Slack Workspace; use this link to sign up for LEARN’s Slack. We will send you an email shortly, giving you access to your classroom channel. Once you are added to Slack, we recommend downloading the app to your phone. Also, please introduce yourself on the #everybody channel! We are one big family here at LEARN, and you will instantly get a warm welcome.
3. Tuition Options
LEARN academy offers our students the flexibility of multiple ways to pay their tuition. Whichever route you have chosen or are looking into, we highly recommend you begin that process immediately. The quicker you secure your tuition and have that in place, the less challenging it will be as the cohort gets closer.
*If you are a part of the VET TEC program, we will work with the VA to secure your tuition.
If you are interested in learning more about which option you would like to use, you can see a complete list of available options here.
Tuition is due BEFORE the first day of class. You have three payment options listed below
- Credit or Debit Card. *If you plan to split the payment across multiple cards, let me know.
- ACH Debit *If you choose this option you will need to take the information provided and make a payment from your bank *Click here to choose this option
- You can apply to one of LEARN’s financing partners to help you with tuition. Please review your options here.
Use this form to make your payment selection and request and invoice.
4. Tutorials
In addition to our required prep course, we highly recommend our students complete these free tutorials. These courses are from well-established communities in the coding industry and cover many additional materials not seen in the prep courses.
They cover a range of topics from additional coding tutorials and information on some of the software and skills you will need in the classroom.
5. Schedule a Zoom Meeting with the Director of Academic Experience
Before the upcoming cohort begins, we require our students to meet with our Director of Academic Experience for a 20-minute zoom meeting. This one-on-one meeting will allow you to discuss our curriculum and how our classroom operates. In addition, you can discuss in more detail where your skills are at, some items you can work on before the start of the cohort, and answer any in-depth questions you have about the curriculum.
This meeting is an essential part of your Onboarding Process; please do not miss this meeting.
This meeting will be a zoom meeting; please have a webcam and microphone available so you can engage and interact with your instructor.
You can schedule a time for your One-On-One Meeting that best aligns with your schedule using this link.
6. High School Diploma or Equivalent
At LEARN academy, one of the necessary records we are required to keep on file is a copy of one of the following documents:
- Copy of High School Diploma
- College transcripts (can be unofficial)
- Proof of GED
- Proof of completion of an Ability to Benefit Test
- Copy of College Diploma
Once you have obtained a copy of one of these documents, you can upload them using this form linked to our records.
*TIPS on how to obtain your High School Diploma: Many public schools and school districts have a website containing information on how to obtain records like diplomas and transcripts. If your school or district does not have a website, you can contact your high school by phone or even in person; the staff in the main office (or registrar’s office) should be able to point you in the right direction. If you are having difficulty locating the school, the National Center for Education Statistics website has a public and private school database that will allow you to search for your school by name, location, grade level, religious affiliation, and more.
Submit Required Documentation: Every school district will vary on the steps you need to take to get a replacement diploma. Since this is an official document, you will likely have to provide a copy of your ID, some personal information, and a signature, which means filling out a form by hand and mailing it to the instructed address. You may also have to pay an additional fee for printing your new diploma. Note that since you will be receiving a new, personalized document, it may take several weeks to process. If time is of the essence, do not wait until the last minute!
7. Required Documents
Two weeks before the start of the upcoming cohort, you will receive the following required documents sent via Docusign to sign electronically:
- Enrollment Agreement
- School Performance Fact Sheet
- Code of Conduct
- Internship Requirements & Attendance Policy
- Laptop Loaner Agreement
Once you have received these documents in your email inbox, please sign and date them as soon as possible.
Also, there are a few more documents that we will need you to sign and look over.
8. Laptop Pickup
We will provide you with a MacBook Air for the duration of the program with all the software you need for the LEARN curriculum. LEARN academy requires that students use the provided laptop instead of their personal laptop/computer.
One week before class starts, we will discuss how you will receive your LEARN laptop.
9. First Day of Class
It’s here! 🎉 We will send you all the information needed to see you in class at 9:00 am PST, ready to start your coding journey.
