Student Spotlight: Brianna Kutauskas

You know what Time it is… our weekly Student Spotlight. This week, we’re chatting with Brianna Kutauskas!!

What prompted your decision to pursue web development & what do you hope to do when you have completed the program?

My husband and I moved to San Diego from in January and I was lucky enough to contract with my old job in Denver for a few months. While I was looking for jobs, my husband (a MEAN stack developer) suggested I try web development since I love challenges, logic puzzles, and learning new things. I went to a Railsbridge Event and completed a few small projects and I was hooked.

Fortunately, after the program I was able to secure a position at Donately as a junior web developer. It’s a great fit because it combines my love of developing and non-profits!

What did you do professionally before you came to LEARN?

I was a Project Coordinator for Corrections Outreach. I provided training on a website that addresses issues of recidivism to criminal justice professionals and case management for some previously incarcerated individuals.

What is something that was a pleasant surprise after starting class?

The camaraderie between all of us as classmates was great, but I think the most surprising thing to me was just realizing I could learn so much in such a short amount of time. I am still just shocked by the progress everyone in the class has made.

Tell us one thing you would like to do in your lifetime (AKA something from your bucket list!)

I always thought it would be really cool to eat at the underwater restaurant in the Maldives.

What’s your favorite beer?

Right now, it’s Critical Band from Modern Times. I like the beer and I love their design.
